Pitch Black by DJ S&M

Pitch Black was the first demo mix I recorded that I'm really happy with, it's the only one I managed to get right on my laptop - the sound hardware is lousy and produced all sorts of wierd noise, it was also really easy to clip the audio and screw everything up.
But somehow I managed to work within the tight constraints of the sound hardware and produce a mix that is still listenable despite it's poor recording techniques. More people know me through this mix than any other since the a danish music website posted the mix on their sessions page - listed alongside mixes by Sasha, Fatboy Slim and Sander Kleinenberg.
Musically it's a combination of styles that keeps a very progressive edge without ever falling into the trap of becoming boring, it starts out with an atmospheric breakbeat sound, then meanders through variations on the house theme picking up some hints from trance and techno along the way. All the way through it builds up to harder stuff at the end to trigger the dance sense of listeners, and it does all this without changing the tempo all the way through, but many people still talk about how it gets faster, that's just and audtory illusion.
Oh and the title comes from the first track.... in Deep Space....

Favourite Bit:
The mix out of Genesis into The Man With The Red Face - the basslines just work wonderfully together and build perfectly into the saxtastic anthem.

Hardest Part:
Err keeping the volume controlled on the whole thing so that it didn't sound horrible on my laptop's lousy sound hardware.
