Make Mine a '99 by DJ S&M
This mix probably needed the least effort to record, the track selection
was made up as I went along, and the whole thing was recorded in one take.
Sure there are some less than perfect mixes but when I was playing this
stuff at parties I was hardly such an exacting DJ. The whole theme was
to go and take my favourite trance tracks from around 1999 when it ruled
the clubs and hadn't really gone mainstream enough to be on every radio
station. Of course the date isnt' precise, but most of the tracks are from
that era.
The whole thing was trigerred by finding a copy of Gouryella in Open
Mind music, I already had all the other tracks in the mix, but Gouryella
was the epitome of trance, energetic, pumping bass, 4 to the floor, big
builds and breaks and of course synth lines that sound like a bee in a
jar. I recorded it more or less straight after getting back, in one
go, it all went straight to minidisc with the only problem being that I
had to cut off the end of 1998 when I hit the end of the minidisc.
The title of course comes from the year and makes a reference to dance
pioneers 'The KLF'
Favourite Bit:
Doing the whole thing in one take and grinning likean idiot.....
Hardest Part:
Letting my street cred slip far enough to let people hear this.
