Black and White breaks is probably my most requested CD, probably because
it's closest to what I've been playing on my monday night slots. This went
out to a few peopel as a demo CD, and I still hear people making copies
for their friends, I also get seasoned DJ's asking where I got the remix
of 'Hip Hop Phenomenon' - well sorry guys it's just two copies of the track
being juggled by myself to add some extra percussion to the track. The
only real rarity is the 'Hybrid Remix' of Xpander, which really isn't,
apparently it comes from a live Hybrid set where they layer the Xpander
pads on top of "Don't Care" by Phantom
Beats, some bright spark was inspired enough to press up a few huindred
copies of his own version and sell them as a Hybrid Remix.
The mix was recorded onto a minidisc recorder through my compressor
and later transferred to computer for burning to CD, this was a two stage
analogue transfer, but it sounds better than 'Pitch Black' although it's
still less than ideal. The sound of this mix is much cleaner and
more progressive than my more recent mix 'Tension Breaker', and it has
a few really good female vocals to make the mix more memorable for the
casual listener.
The title is more or less a descendant from Pitch Black, and it's reflected
in the cover art I 'appropriated' for the CD - if saw the art and liked
it you should go and look for Frank Miller's excellent "Sin City" graphic
novels.
Favourite Bit: Chopping up 2 copies of "The Hip Hop Phenomenon"
Hardest Part: Running out of time and having to rush the last 5 tracks to fit them
in.
